Church Street Development Design Milestone

What Was It?

Ryerson hosted two events on October 21,2014 to share the impressive renderings of the new Church Street Development (CSD) building with the Ryerson community, media and stakeholders. One event was for internal members and an evening reception was for external stakeholders including government and media. Remarks were made by President Levy and an architect from Perkins + Will Canada architectural firm presented the designs and layout of the building.

My theme for décor, design, and menu were inspired from the building designs. I drew from the transparency of the building – the ability to see into and through – the light and airy feeling – from ground up to green roof. The linear design of the glass exterior combined with the touch of yellow which separates the two slabs of the glass and white exterior visually takes the eye on a journey, and incorporates the building into the very skyline of Toronto.

The colours I used on site were directly related to the airy and green feeling the building has. As guests entered the event space, the white pipe and drape represented the open elongated atrium of the building while the linens, floral designs, and menu options contributed to the different exposed layers of the building.
